RACE REPORT

Spa-Francorchamps attracts all of the drivers. It’s situated at the South Eastern Belgium mountain nearby the border of Germany. In addition to the Eau Rouge which is the peak rising into the sky, there are also many attractiveness like dynamic layout on its natural landform and high speed corners going down the mountain. It’s one of a few traditional circuits

The reason why it wasn’t a willing weekend for the drivers of the Red Bull Racing is not only the Spa-Weather but also its very long straight. Their RB6 is rich in downforce and is quick at high-speed corners but it becomes a disadvantage at straights because of its drag.

“I think if we had to have 17 races in a championship, we wouldn't choose Spa and Monza to have races at,” Mark said. “But it's part of the calendar and we have to make the car quick everywhere. We know that it's not a strength of the car and hasn't been for quite a few years and we know why.”

But they weren’t dispirited. Sebastian was also motivated although he had lost his victory by a penalty in Hungary. He said “It is basically that what could, should, would doesn't matter. It all depends on what the points are on the scoreboard and in the championship.”

Weather repot doesn’t mean a lot here and in fact it had been raining off and on from the beginning of this weekend. But the Red Bulls didn’t seem to be so bad like they had expected. Spa-Weather kept on ruling even in Qualifying. Sebastian made mistakes on tricky track and resulted in 4th place but Mark claimed pole position with fantastic attack lap.

“Spa is certainly a great venue to get pole - It's a beautiful and very special track,” he said. “I'm pleased to be on pole and tomorrow's race is going to be interesting, I don't think the race will be won on the first lap. I'm looking forward to it.”

Sunday’s Race started in dry conditions. Mark had a huge wheel-spin and lost a lot of positions. Sebastian overtook him from 4th. He tried to catch the McLarens up but he made a mistake again when it started raining again. He got a driver-through penalty and it meant his race was ended.

“What happened, happened and we can't change it now,” he was really disappointed. “Obviously I'm not proud of it, I lost the car going over the bump as I was braking and unfortunately hit Jenson, so he couldn't continue. I'm sorry for him. We'll have to see what we can do at the next races.”

Mark become 3rd after this accident and overtook a Renault at the pitstop. It was not enough to challenge against the McLaren who has an extreme straight-line speed but he could secure 2nd place. We could say it was a goo damage limitation for this weekend.

“The start was a mess, it wasn't ideal to lose that many positions,” Mark said. “But fortunately it's not Monaco or Barcelona where the positions often don't change during the race. It was very challenging in the last part of the Grand Prix and it was difficult to keep the car on track. I can't believe the top three qualifiers finished on the podium with all the changing conditions! It was a good day for me.”

The Red Bull Racing heads for Monza, the last race in Europe keeping the lead of the Constructors’ Championship.
