"Not bad for a number two driver!" Voice of Mark who had won the British Grand Prix perfectly has been delivered on the radio. That ironical voice was just like him who had a lot of hurdles in his career and came back from such adversity.
Silverstone, the stage of the British Grand Prix is just 30 minutes from the factory of the Red Bull Racing, so this is a home race for them not having an event Austria at this moment. The track’s last part has been reborn and now it’s more favourite for the RB6 than before with more high-speed corners. Same as many other drivers like such a track, Sebastian loves this track.
"Silverstone is unbelievable," he said. "The corner combinations, I can only say it again and again, they're so much fun. Our car obviously works very well in these sorts of corners, it's so great, the speeds we reach here – I think we're all a bit crazy, but it's so much fun. The new section is also good, especially Turns 11 and 12 where you come into the new section with a big bump. I really like this track and fortunately our car always works very well here.”
They could made two new front wings arrive in this weekend with a huge effort. "Two” means one for each drivers and no spare. This fact brought a drama for this weekend. One of them came off during a free practice and was broken. There is only one left. Team decided to give it to Sebastian.
"Unfortunately,” Christian Horner, team principal explained. ”we found ourselves in a situation with only one front wing of a certain specification which was slightly different in characteristics. Unfortunately sometimes I have to make a difficult decision – and with only one wing available and the facts to hand that we had, and based on championship position – which was the criteria that we used – that wing went to Sebastian today."
No one knows weather it was given by the wing or not, Sebastian claimed pole position. Obviously Mark was not happy sitting on second position next to him.
"I think the team is happy with the result today,” he said. "Seb and I ran different spec front wings here for qualifying, but we're still evaluating which is the best to have, I don't think there's a huge amount in them. I would rather be third on the grid probably, we know second on the grid at most sides is s***. If Fernando [Alonso] wants to change we will see if we can."
But the Sunday became Mark’s day. He bounced the disadvantage of the grid and turned into the first corner as a leader. Sebastian got a puncture and lost an opportunity to fight for the victory so it became Mark’s solitary journey. Needless to say, he claimed this season’s third victory and flew into a delight after such adversity.
"It's great to win here in Silverstone,” he smiled. "it's got such a lot of history and to win big races like this one and Monaco is so rewarding. The start was ideal, when I got to the first corner I was ahead and thought, ‘let's get on with it’. Whether the gap between us in qualifying was the difference between the two front wings, I don't know. But it was a far from ideal situation and it definitely made my win taste even sweeter. It was an incredible day today and I'm looking forward to enjoying myself this evening."
"Yesterday was a unique situation, but I'm confident we can sort everything for the future.”
Red Bull Racing dominated the weekend but a tumour has been left among the team. Formula One is going to Germany. Obviously Sebastian is burning for bounce back there because it’s his home. Let’s expect reconciliation and exciting race between them.
